Iconic Birmingham venue donates free tickets to refuge

Children and mothers affected by domestic violence enjoyed an evening of carols after a prestigious Birmingham venue donated more than 50 free tickets to a festive show.

Birmingham’s Town Hall and Symphony Hall (THSH) provided 56 tickets for ‘Carols by Candlelight’ to a refuge managed by West Midlands-based Ashram Housing Association.

Tickets for the show, which featured traditional carols and seasonal classics in a candle-lit setting and ran until Monday (19th) at Symphony Hall, cost from £12.50 to £36.

Sahdaish Pall, Manager of the refuge, said: “We are very grateful to the Town Hall and Symphony Hall for this very generous and kind donation.

“Many of the women and children that we support can feel withdrawn and depressed as a result of the violence that they have suffered so this gift is very welcome.”

Chris Baldock, General Manager of Symphony Hall, said: “We were delighted to enable this to happen and to give a Christmas treat to such a deserving and often neglected group of people.”

The Town Hall and Symphony Hall, both based in Birmingham city centre, are jointly managed by charity Performances Birmingham Limited. Both venues host more than 600 concerts and events every year.

Ashram Housing Association’s refuge is a registered charity and is part of Ashram’s Reducing Domestic Violence initiative, which provides specialised support and information to women in the West Midlands.
